PIHBWA COVID-19 Relief Fund for Pasifika Families

During this time of the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic, our Pasifika communities are among some of the most highly impacted. From getting laid off, working essential jobs, and having limited access to healthcare, we know that the Pasifika community has faced major barriers compounded by COVID-19.

To support our community, the Pacific Islander Health Board of WA was awarded a grant from Front and Centered, which allows us to  provide this relief fund as one of several available resources to help our Pasifika communities who are facing the challenges of COVID-19.  In order to assist as many households as possible, we can only offer $500 per household through a nomination process. If approved for fund disbursement, we will follow up with the nominated family for delivery options.

  • Must live in Pierce, King, or Snohomish county (other exceptions will be made exclusively by the PIHBWA selection committee)

  • Must be an individual or family of Pasifika heritage whose main source of income has been disrupted due to COVID-19. Disruption could look like, but is not limited to

    • Becoming ill or caring for a loved one who has become ill.

    • Getting laid off or unable to work from home.

    • Having none or limited wage hours at work.

    • Facing financial losses due to cancellations or no available work as an independent contractor/being self employed.

    • Taking precautions by staying home and not working, to protect yourself or loved ones who are immunocompromised or elders.

Relief Priorities:

This fund is primarily meant to serve individuals and families who are of Pasifika ancestry and are facing significant challenges accessing any government funds or benefits. To protect individuals, our nomination process will not ask immigration status. To help us meet this need, please only nominate for assistance request if the family/individual you are nominating are of Pasifika ancestry or are filling out this application for someone who is. Individuals and families who meet the following criteria will be prioritized for this limited funding:

  • Individuals who have lost their jobs/hours/wages as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • People who have contracted COVID-19 and high risk individuals will be prioritized. This includes those who are over the age of 50, people with severe asthma or chronic lung disease, people who are immunocompromised, people with severe obesity, serious heart conditions, diabetes, chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis, people with liver disease.

  • Individuals experiencing homeslessness and renters.

  • Individuals who are single parents or are the primary source of income for their households.

  • LGBTQ+ identifying.

  • Families who are COFA citizens

  • Families and individuals who live in Pierce, King, or Snohomish County

  • Families who have undocumented individuals

  • Families who did not receive funding from our first round of relief

We at the Pacific Islander Health Board of WA, want you to know that we will do our very best to support as many of our Pasifika families and siblings as possible. However, given our finite resources, please know that filling out this nomination application does NOT guarantee that the nominated applicant will receive aid.

Please ONLY complete this form if you either are an individual with Pasifika ancestry or you are filling it out on behalf of someone who meets that criteria. If you are submitting this on behalf of someone else, please answer all questions in relation to the beneficiary.
